30 May 2020
Due to the easing of restrictions relating to CoronaVirus (COVID-19), we are able to celebrate baptisms with a maximum of 20 people (excluding the priest). If you would like to make a booking or would like more information please contact the Parish Office 6291 6688 firstname.lastname@example.org
Baptism is the door to life and the kingdom of God. Christ offered this first sacrament of the new law to all that they might have eternal life. He entrusted this sacrament and the gospel to his Church when he told his apostles: ‘Go, make disciples of all nations, and Baptise them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.’ It is the role of the father and mother, accompanied by the Godparents, to present their child to the Church for Baptism.
Currently, Baptisms are held on Sundays at 11.30am and 12.30pm in Holy Family Church, Gowrie. Due to current restrictions, one family will be at each session. Baptisms are celebrated outside of Mass and due to the high number of families in our Parish, each session can have up to four families present. However, each family will gather at the Baptismal Font for their child’s individual Baptism.
Please phone the Parish Office on 6291 6688 to book the date for your child/s Baptism before making any other celebration bookings.
Dates can fill quickly and the date you would
like may not always be available.
If this is your first child to be Baptised, or if you haven’t done so with your previous children, or it has been 3 years since your last child was Baptised, you will need to attend a Baptism Preparation Session. These sessions are held at 7pm on the 1st Tuesday of the month, recommencing Tuesday 7 July in the Parish Centre at Gowrie (next to the Parish Office) for approx 30-45 minutes. The sessions are led by Fr Andrew Lotton.
Request for Baptism form:
Forms are available at the Parish Office or the parish website by clicking on the “Baptism Request” form link below. This form needs to be signed by both parents and the two Godparents. It is preferable for forms to be returned to the Parish Office two weeks before the Baptism. Please be aware that we are unable to proceed with a Baptism if the forms are not returned or signed correctly before the Baptism date.
The Baptism Request form also asks for families to nominate their preferred time to attend a Welcoming Mass on the weekend of the Baptism. Attendance at this Mass is an essential part of the Baptism celebration as it allows the Parish community to offer their prayers and support to the family and their child. Due to the current restrictions, please contact the Parish Office for Mass availability.
Residence outside our parish:
If you reside in a suburb outside our parish, and would like your child to be Baptised in Corpus Christi Parish, you will need to obtain written permission from your Parish Priest. These forms are available from the Parish Office or by clicking on the “Baptism from another parish” link below. You will need to complete a Baptism Preparation session either in your own parish or at Corpus Christi and you will be expected to attend a Welcoming Mass at one of our weekend Masses. A Request for Baptism form will also need to be completed for our parish register.
Baptism in another parish:
If you reside in a suburb within our parish, and would like your child to be Baptised at another parish, you need to obtain written permission from our Parish Priest. These forms are available from the Parish Office or by clicking on the “Baptism at another parish” link below. You will need to complete a Baptism Preparation session at Corpus Christi and you will be expected to attend a Welcoming Mass at one of our weekend Masses. If you would like to purchase a Baptismal Bib (white garment) for your child the cost is $12.50 and they are available from the Parish Office.
The Code of Canon Law states that there is to be one Catholic Godfather and one Catholic Godmother, both over the age of 16. However, if there is only one Catholic Godparent the other must be Baptised in another faith and is therefore a Christian Witness.
We have provision for two Godparents on the Baptism Certificate and in our Parish Baptism Register. You may list more than two on the Request for Baptism form and all are welcome to stand up at the baptism. However, only two names will appear on the certificate and one must be catholic.
The suggested donation is $75 for 1 child, $130 for 2 children (from the same family) and $180 for 3 or more children (from the same family). This includes a Baptismal Bib and candle for each child, both of which you may keep. Payment can be made in cash or by completing the credit card authorisation on the back of the form and returning it to the office,or online at http://www.ccparish.org.au/stewardship/online-paymentsdonationsfundraising/. There is a locked silver mail box beside the front door if you are not able to return your form during office hours.
The Baptismal bib and candle will be given to you at your child’s Baptism, along with the certificate.
